"American Structurepoint strongly supports advancing women in transportation to ensure a diverse, inclusive and equitable workforce, aligning with WTS International’s guiding principles.” - American Structurepoint President and Partner Rick Conner
Hiring and developing a diverse Cleveland workforce has been a key goal from the outset. Today, the Cleveland technical staff is about 30% female, which is more than double the 13.7% of women comprising the US engineering workforce in 2023.
“American Structurepoint is honored to receive the Employer of the Year Award,” said American Structurepoint President Rick Conner, who accepted the award at a recognition breakfast this morning at the Great Lakes Science Center. “American Structurepoint strongly supports advancing women in transportation to ensure a diverse, inclusive and equitable workforce, aligning with WTS International’s guiding principles.”
The Cleveland design center has seen tremendous growth from its humble beginnings. The first Cleveland employee, Project Manager Kelsey Morton, worked out of her parents’ basement for several months. Principal Ed Kagel, the leader responsible for building the Cleveland team, worked out of his van and home as well.
The team gathered for the first time in office space in early 2020, but the office was forced to shut down just four to six weeks later when the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the nation. The staff of five worked remotely for all of 2020, steadily winning key projects before returning to the design center in 2021.
Today, the dynamic Cleveland team is 20 people strong and still growing. The team’s seasoned professionals provide innovative solutions and improve the quality of life for Northeast Ohio communities. Whether it’s a complete pavement replacement of nearly 8 miles of I-90 in Cuyahoga County; improvements to West Smith Road in Medina to improve pedestrian access, water distribution, and connectivity; or the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Norwalk, American Structurepoint offers solutions to build and better communities.
