Indianapolis, IN - Harrison County, Indiana, and American Structurepoint have earned a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in the 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards for the Peter J. Schickel Way Corridor project.

American Structurepoint engineers designed a new 2.5-mile-long roadway over hilly terrain in rural Harrison County, connecting the Interstate 64 (I-64) Lanesville interchange with State Road 64 (SR 64) west of Georgetown. The project’s goals included significantly enhancing public safety and mobility by providing an alternative access route to I-64. The improvements also relieve congestion on SR 64 through Georgetown, Indiana, and resolve traffic delays at the Georgetown interchange at I-64.

“American Structurepoint has been a proud partner of Harrison County on this project for 20 years, and it is rewarding to see this long-awaited project come to life,” - American Structurepoint President Cash Canfield.

“American Structurepoint has been a proud partner of Harrison County on this project for 20 years, and it is rewarding to see this long-awaited project come to life,” said American Structurepoint President Cash Canfield. “This collaboration has turned a decades-old vision into a reality, improving connectivity and safety in this community.”

The new roadway reduces travel time and vehicle emissions. Residents of western Harrison County can now reach I-64 quickly without encountering a single traffic light. Previously, the 30 mph drive through Georgetown, Indiana, involved five traffic lights, causing congestion and long commutes to I-64 and Louisville, just 14 miles away.

Completing this corridor was key to Harrison County’s strategy to boost economic development around the I-64 Lanesville interchange by improving connectivity and accessibility. The area has since welcomed four new businesses, including a major Amazon distribution center, bringing jobs and opportunities to the community.
