HAYES COUNTY, TEXAS - Hays County has kicked off a project to widen RM 3237 in Wimberley, a move designed to improve road safety and support the growth of the community. The expansion will see the addition of shoulders, new turn lanes, and the widening of travel lanes on River Mountain Road and Camino De Rancho Road at RM 3237 within the construction area. Morgan Hammer, Precinct 3 Commissioner, emphasized the importance of the project, "Investing in our transportation network is investing in the safety and well-being of the Hays County community," during a statement referenced by Hays County official announcements.

As construction takes off, adjustments to traffic patterns have been announced. Westbound lanes of RM 3237 at River Mountain Road and Camino De Rancho Road within the construction limits are now closed. Traffic is being rerouted to the eastbound lane, which will function as a two-way road with one lane in each direction. The project is not just a local endeavor but is backed by the 2016 Road Bond Program and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), funding improvements with a construction value of $4.9 million.

The collective efforts of American Structurepoint Inc. as the design engineer, Dead Word Company taking charge of construction, and TxDOT providing construction engineering inspection services, mark a collaborative push to expedite the necessary road work. The project, which commenced on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, is expected to wrap up by the summer of 2025, according to details published by Hays County.

This infrastructure facelift underscores a response to growing congestion and safety concerns tied to increased traffic in the area. As cities and counties across the state grapple with the challenges of urbanization and expansion, initiatives like the one in Wimberley serve as tangible proof of the ongoing efforts to adapt and improve the roadways that connect us. Commuters and locals can anticipate smoother drives and enhanced road capacity as summer approaches, the culmination of planning, investment, and community prioritization of infrastructure and safety.
