Hendricks County Regional Sewer District Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Receives ACEC Indiana Engineering Excellence Awards Recognition

American Structurepoint has earned the Merit Award from the American Council Of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana for the Hendricks County Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion project in Avon, Indiana.
The 2024 ACEC Indiana Engineering Excellence Awards recognized American Structurepoint, in collaboration with Bowen Engineering and Aqua Indiana, for an innovative biological treatment process to remove phosphorus from wastewater, improvements that optimized hydraulics and operations, and the use of a complex sequencing of construction to complete the project in just 2 acres of space.
The objective of the project was to increase the treatment capacity of the plant by 1.75 million gallons per day (MGD) and enhance the total capacity to 3.0 MGD. The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was rapidly reaching its permitted capacity and desperately needed to be expanded in the most cost-effective way to best serve the community. Using a biological method to treat the wastewater rather than using chemicals will save the community and ratepayers money over time.
American Structurepoint engineers designed the expansion with sustainability in mind. The treatment process includes the reduction of phosphorus into Avon Creek. Removing phosphorus from wastewater is essential to ensure the safety and health of the public and protect the environment.
“American Structurepoint is thankful for the opportunity to partner with the Hendricks County Regional Sewer District and Aqua Indiana to improve the capacity of the Hendricks County Wastewater Treatment Plant to continue to serve the local community,” said American Structurepoint Project Manager Karen Saavedra.
