American Structurepoint and the City of Blue Ash have earned an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Ohio in the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards for the Plainfield Road Roundabouts project.

American Structurepoint partnered with the City of Blue Ash to design an integrated system of three roundabouts along Plainfield Road to improve traffic flow, ease congestion, slow down traffic, reduce accidents, and enhance public safety.

Heavy congestion, excessive motorist speeds, and severe crashes with injuries plagued the Plainfield Road corridor, a major commuter route in Blue Ash. Traffic backups were especially common at the intersections of Peppermill Lane and Hunt Road. The Plainfield Road-Hunt Road intersection was particularly treacherous. The intersection ranked twelfth on a list of most dangerous intersections in the entire state of Ohio, according to an analysis of data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

To improve traffic flow, American Structurepoint designed roundabouts for the Plainfield Road-Hunt Road and Plainfield Road-Peppermill Lane intersections, and a roundabout for a safer entrance to a Kroger store near Hunt Road. Crosswalks and new sidewalks were added throughout the corridor to enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. These improvements resulted in a safer corridor, with no reported injury accidents occurring since the roundabouts opened in 2022 and 2023.
