Power Mail Building Fire Investigation
Sheridan, Indiana
Professional fire investigators of American Structurepoint performed an origin and cause investigation on a property fire loss of an 1880 historical downtown building. The building was three stories tall and had partially collapsed. American Structurepoint’s structural engineers were brought in to determine the structural stability of the remaining structure, if the building could safely be entered for investigation, and to offer an opinion on the safest method of partial demolition of the remaining walls so that the fire investigation and analysis could be conducted. Coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency, fire department, State officials, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and US Postal Service inspector and demolition crews proved to be rewarding once the origin of the fire was discovered. The cause was determined to have been due to human intervention.
