City of Green, American Structurepoint Earn Outstanding Achievement Award from ACEC Ohio for Massillon Roads Roundabout Project

The City of Green, Ohio, and American Structurepoint have earned an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Ohio Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in the 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards for exceptional engineering excellence for the Massillon Roads Corridor project.
Heavy traffic congestion plagued a two-block area of Massillon Road, a key commercial and retail hub in the city. To address this, American Structurepoint designed two multilane roundabouts to replace traditional signal-controlled intersections at Boettler Road and Corporate Woods Circle/Thorn Drive. This innovative solution improved traffic flow, eased congestion, and enhanced public safety.
“Our collaboration with the City of Green to improve public safety and relieve traffic congestion exemplifies our dedication to creating efficient and safe transportation solutions,” American Structurepoint Project Manager Tony Lenhart
The two-block section of Massillon Road is the city's busiest, with over 24,000 vehicles passing through daily. According to American Structurepoint’s traffic analysis, a traditional intersection improvement would have required a 9-lane-wide roadway to handle the projected traffic. However, the roundabout solution not only improved traffic flow but also reduced the number of required travel lanes, saving approximately $1.2 million in right-of-way acquisition, construction, and future maintenance costs.
Project improvements include underground utility banks to reduce overhead utility clutter and enhance the corridor’s aesthetic appeal. New sidewalks and crosswalks on both sides of Massillon Road promote multimodal travel and improve pedestrian connectivity. Additionally, distinctive landscaping at each roundabout’s center circle fosters a sense of place and strengthens community identity along the corridor.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for the Massillon Road Roundabouts project,” said American Structurepoint Project Manager Tony Lenhart. “Our collaboration with the City of Green to improve public safety and relieve traffic congestion exemplifies our dedication to creating efficient and safe transportation solutions.”
